Recital kindles love of poetry

A Cromer Academy student’s moving rendition of a famous World War I poem has won the top prize in a competition for the best recital from a Year 8 student.
Joe Dewick’s emotive recital of Dulce et Decorum Est, by Wilfred Owen, bagged him a brand-new Kindle Fire, presented by principal Dr Geoff Baker.
Cromer Academy students’ love of poetry has hit the headlines lately, with a group of students featured in the Sunday Times last month reading poetry on the beach.
This follows the unveiling of the Inspiration Trust’s initiative to encourage all students at its academies to read, learn, and recite poetry, including the creation of a wide-ranging selection of 100 poems for them to pick and learn by heart.
