Pupils make the grade in karate display

Published on 27/02/18

Children from Great Yarmouth Primary Academy have put on a belting display of martial arts at a karate grading.

They showed off their skills in kihon (basics), kata (form), and kumite (sparring) to win new belts in a grading held at the school by Chinto Karate.

Led by Sensei Tracy Pillar, the karate club runs weekly enrichment sessions for pupils in Years 3 to 6, alongside a Thursday evening session which is open to the wider community.

The school’s enrichment leader Tina Yaxley said: “These sessions provide a fun way to build confidence and socialising skills. The children develop focus and fitness along with self-discipline.

“Congratulations to all the pupils who gained their new belts at this grading.”
