Students remember tragedy of war

Forty Year 9 students from Hethersett Academy will be seeing first hand what life was like in the trenches, as we approach Remembrance Day.

The students will be visiting First World War battlefields and cemeteries as part of their trip to France. The planned itinerary is:

November 1

  • Leave School at 7 am
  • Ferry arrives there at 2.35pm (local time)
  • Arrive at DeLork, Kemmel at 5.30pm & early dinner
  •  Menin Gate ‘Last Post’ Ceremony 7.30pm for 8pm ceremony*

November 2 - Ypres Salient

  • Depart DeLork for Ypres Excursion Day
  • Zonnebeke Museum
  • Tyne Cot Cemetery
  • Langemark Cemetery
  • Essex Farm Cemetery
  • Ypres Town Centre & Chocolate Shop
  • Travel to Poppies Hotel, Albert, France
  • Dinner in Albert at 7.30pm

November 3 - Somme Valley sites

  • Newfoundland Park
  • Thiepval Memorial
  • Vimy Ridge
  • Dinner in Albert at 7pm

November 4

  • Leave Poppies Hotel, Albert
  • Tunnels of Arras at 10 am
  • Ferry arrives back at 2.40pm (GMT)
