Great Yarmouth Charter pupils have proved their verbal dexterity by scooping the top prize in a debating competition.

It is the second time the school has taken the trophy in the annual Great Yarmouth Schools' Debate Competition.

Year 9 pupils Georgia Harvey, Kenny Pitts and Lauren Revell won through to the finals, where they went up against Year 10 pupils from Caister Academy to present their arguments on US gun laws and the gender pay gap.

The event was held at Great Yarmouth Town Hall and presided over by mayor Kerry Robinson Payne, who also presented the team with their trophies.

They team has been supported by teacher Vikki Savage.

"The final was held in front of judges from each of the local political parties  and the mayor and they were very impressed with our pupils," said Ms Savage.

"Our team presented absolutely fantastically and are a credit to the academy."
